Here we will look at the overall condition of a restoration project before and after cleaning.
I will then add pictures after it has been repainted as well.
The Champion 1J 1947 outboard motor
flywheel is easily removed by starting with the 3/4" nut
and
and lock washer from the crankshaft end.
Next, I had to adapt my gear puller, as shown, to pull the flywheel
and expose the bendix/scintilla magneto assembly.
Next
I remove the gas tank from the engine by turning slightly while lifting
the tank off.
Now we have easy access to the Bendix/Scintilla magneto plate and coil assembly.
The coil isn't difficult to replace and is still available from various sources. I do not carry the parts, howver.
I will add more information as I dig farther into this project.
