TROUBLESHOOTING HD-25 and TD-20 running problems.
Checking spark plugs and discovering water! Water on this upper cylinder spark plug made this HD-25 an unhappy runner.
Lots of smoke and rough idling. Close inspection near the back of the engine on the left side indicated bubbles from a slight leak.
I have shown the location of the leak right along the seam, not common, but not rare either. Fix is not quick, need to diassemble entire engine and clean and retorque everything on the powerhead. removing the powerhead from the lower unit indicated a nasty brown and black mess.
This tells me that water is getting where it shouldn't be. Looking at the inside of the lower unit with the powerhead removed. Damp, nasty!. This is caused most frequently, for me, by a worn gasket. This is particularly true with TD-20 5hp models.
